My neighbor stole and rehomed my cat.

Question

My neighbor stole my cat than rehomed him. I’m suing them, but it's just so hard to find attorney to take my case. I have a court date already and it’s in July. Any suggestions or advice?

Virginia, USA

Answer

Civil litigation attorneys typically handle lawsuits seeking the return of property or animals and for monetary compensation. Local and state bar associations often have attorney referral services. There are a variety of reasons why an attorney might not take a particular case, such as when the attorney believes the case is not winnable or the potential client is unwilling to pay the estimated legal fees. I hope this situation works out well for the cat!
