Love Worth Waiting For

For nearly four years, Bobby waited. The lovable pit bull mix watched countless dogs leave, while he remained behind, returned more than once through no fault of his own. At Animal League America, however, our no-kill promise gave Bobby something every homeless animal deserves: time.

His forever family eventually found him through our social media posts, where his face kept appearing again and again. “Every time his picture popped up, I’d think, oh my god, he is so adorable,” his new mom Christine recalled. “The first time I showed him to my daughter, she started to cry. She said we have to adopt him.” When they finally met Bobby, it felt meant to be.

Knowing his history only strengthened their commitment. “When you adopt a pet and bring them into your family, they’re part of your family,” she said. “You figure it out. Pets aren’t perfect. Neither are people. You’re not going to return your child because they misbehave.”

Today, Bobby is exactly where he belongs. The once-overlooked dog is now the center of family life. Far from lonely days spent in a kennel, now Bobby sleeps in bed with his mom, follows his family from room to room, and happily climbs onto the couch whenever someone sits down. Every trip to the backyard ends with his signature “victory lap” — a joyful sprint around the yard before racing back to the door with a huge smile on his face.

“He is so cuddly,” Christine said. “Wherever you are, so is he.” Our no-kill mission matters because not every animal finds a family quickly. Some need weeks. Others need years. Bobby simply needed extra time to find the people who would love him exactly as he is.
