Homecoming Month was filled with special moments as animals and adopters found one another and new families began to take shape.
The month started with this year’s Adopt-A-Fest, where animal lovers joined us on our Port Washington campus for fall activities, local vendors, and the chance to meet their new four-legged family member. CATober kept the celebration going the following week with a special three-day event devoted to our feline friends. Thanks to the turnout for these ongoing events, October found 327 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens heading to the loving homes they deserve.
Walking Together to Save Lives
It may have been our chilliest event to date, but that didn’t stop over 100 dedicated supporters from bundling up and heading to Town of North Hempstead Beach Park to support North Shore Animal League America and our Walk to Rescue.
Despite the windy conditions, enthusiastic walkers and their furry companions came together for the 1.5-mile route and proved just how committed this community is to save homeless animals. Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena joined us for the morning, along with members of Girls on the Run Long Island, terrific vendors and community partners, and Animal League America’s Mobile Rescue Unit.
Howling Halloween Pup Cruise
As our homecoming month was coming to a close, it was time to board Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises Howling Halloween Pup Cruise. Now in its fifth year, and after dark for the very first time, costumed pups and their people cruised past the illuminated Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty, while our Mobile Adoption Unit welcomed potential adopters back at Pier 83. Even better, 100% of cruise ticket proceeds supported Animal League America’s no-kill mission.
As Homecoming Month comes to an end, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make it so memorable. Homecoming is about finding where you belong, and thanks to your compassion and generosity, hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens found their way home this October.
