Fifty-Five Canines Rescued from a Life of Breeding Find Hope

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, 55 dogs and puppies were given something they’d never known: hope for a better life. Rescued from commercial breeding facilities in the Midwest, the dogs were transported via our Mobile Rescue Unit to our Port Washington, NY campus, thanks to our ongoing partnership with National Mill Dog Rescue.

The group included 40 adult dogs and 15 puppies, representing a wide variety of small and medium breeds: Bichons, Beagles, Dachshunds, Pugs, Cocker Spaniels, Poodle mixes, and even a Corgi. Two litters – seven Husky puppies and five Aussies – were among the youngest. One tiny Havanese girl, just weeks old, is now receiving special care in our Nursery until she’s ready for adoption.

Many of the dogs arrived matted and wary, their eyes barely visible beneath tangled fur. But with thorough grooming, dental care, medical evaluations and behavioral support, each will leave their past behind and emerge transformed.

“They didn’t have the best start,” noted Rescue Team Leader Ted Moriates. “But soon they’ll be ready for loving homes and get a second chance for a happy life.”

This rescue is part of our broader, tireless effort to save animals in need, wherever they are. Recent arrivals include dogs and cats from California, North Carolina, Puerto Rico and even Texas flood zones. We remain committed to our no-kill mission and saying yes to every animal we can help; and, thanks to our incredible supporters and adopters, these once-neglected dogs are getting the love they deserve.
