March began at our Port Washington, NY campus as we welcomed a very special group of new arrivals — over 50 puppies, including a litter of 9 along with their extraordinary mom, Mama Mia. Their journey to safety was made possible thanks to the remarkable teamwork and compassion of our rescue partners Paws 4 Life and That Crazy Dog Lady.

Mama Mia’s story began in Texas, where an elderly couple found her heavily pregnant and took her in. She soon gave birth to nine beautiful puppies, and the couple lovingly cared for the family for seven weeks. But with puppies come challenges, and when the family realized they could no longer keep up, they prepared to surrender them to their local municipal shelter — a heartbreaking path that would have put all 10 lives at risk.
That’s when Vanessa Cogswell, founder of That Crazy Dog Lady Rescue, jumped into action. Determined not to let this family slip through the cracks, she pulled together a team of 10 volunteers in a matter of hours. They transported Mama Mia and her puppies for veterinary exams, secured a behavior evaluation, and coordinated multiple drivers to move the family all the way to Shreveport, LA — hoping against all odds to meet up with our scheduled transport through Paws 4 Life.
Thanks to that coordinated effort, Mama Mia and her young litter joined the transport and completed their long journey to us. Today, they’re settling in, receiving medical care, grooming, and more love than they know what to do with.

As we continued to care for Mama Mia and all the puppies from this transport, your support makes all the difference. Please donate today to help us provide everything these pups need, including medical care, nutritious food in their bellies, and a safe place to rest until we can find them each homes of their own.
