The Mutt-i-grees Global Ambassador Program sparks student passion and purpose, blending humane education and service-learning to explore the connections between people and animals with the goal of inspiring meaningful change.

Our Mutt-i-grees Ambassadors are always exploring new and evolving projects. This year, the enthusiastic teens from Locust Valley Public Library have taken on a range of initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of animal rescue and adoption—including participating in the library’s first-ever poetry writing program!

Their final project of the year, titled ‘Empathy for Animals,’ was led by Head of Youth Services and Ambassador Sponsor Leslie Armstrong, along with the library’s Poet-in-Residence, Patti Tana. As part of the experience, the teens visited our campus to tour the shelter and meet adoptable animals, drawing inspiration for their heartfelt, rescue-themed poems. Their creative pieces are a unique approach to garner the attention of families adopting from the shelter, especially for harder to adopt animals. A creative and compassionate send-off to their new furry friend’s forever.
