The Adoptions Continue at 18th Annual Tour For Life® Finale
As the world’s largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization, it’s only fitting that North Shore Animal League America spearheads Tour For Life®, the world’s largest cooperative lifesaving adoption event sponsored by Purina®. For 10 weeks, our state-of-the-art Mobile Adoption Units traveled through 50 cities in 37 states, promoting the plight of homeless companion animals and collaborating with our shelter partners to facilitate more than 2,000 adoptions!
On April 20, 2018, TFL came to a close in New York at NYCB LIVE: Home of The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. With one of our mobile units filled with adoptable puppies and kittens parked in front of the 17,686-seat arena, a crowd of excited adopters waiting to find their new best friend, and 20 bright eyed students from St. Marten De Porres Marianist School in Uniondale, who participate in the Mutt-i-grees Curriculum®, celebrated another successful tour. The event didn’t just signify the end of this year’s journey, but a new beginning for all of the animals that found responsible, loving homes thanks to everyone who participated in this lifesaving mission.
Let me assure you, none of this happened by accident. It took Animal League America months to coordinate with all those shelters in cities across the country that led to so many second chances for so many companion animals left without a home,” said Joanne Yohannan, Animal League America Senior Vice President of Operations. “I applaud all the planners, the drivers, and people who provided support to make this effort a success.”
Saving the lives of homeless animals across this great country has always been the main goal of the world’s largest mobile adoption crusade, and the grand finale was no different. Eleven Mutt-i-grees were adopted into loving homes on that chilly April afternoon, including an adorable female Collie puppy, who was the first to go home! She was quickly scooped up by The Ellis Family, who said as soon as they heard that the finale event would feature adoptable pets, they didn’t think twice about making the trip to Uniondale.
“We knew we wanted to add another dog to our family, so as soon as we heard that North Shore [Animal League America] was going to be here with puppies and kittens, we hopped in the car with the kids and made our way here,” said Kate, holding the super fluffy puppy that she and her family named Lady. “She’s just perfect!”
Long after our Mobile Rescue and Adoption Units have loaded up and left, the impact of Animal League America’s Tour For Life remains engrained in the fabric of communities all across the United States. City after city, state after state, every year the world’s largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization will continue to save lives and raise the awareness of homeless shelter pets across the country on our Tour For Life!
