Team Bentley

With his snowy white coat, enormous smile, and personality to match his size, Bentley had plenty going for him. However, this two-and-a-half-year-old Husky mix also had a longer road to home than most.

Rescued from Texas with help from our partner Friends of Marshall Animals, Bentley underwent knee surgery at Animal League America and made a full recovery. Still, the big, energetic dog kept waiting for someone to choose him. Fortunately, Bentley had plenty of people in his corner.

Volunteer Kim became one of his biggest champions, taking Bentley on Adventure Club outings where he could enjoy time away from the shelter. Car rides were a favorite. “He was definitely a ‘windows-down’ kind of dog,” Kim recalled. “After only a couple of trips, he would actually try to find my car in the parking lot.”

Kim and fellow volunteer Cathy captured Bentley’s joyful personality on video, and when his story was shared on Animal League America’s social media, it reached Hema and her husband more than 200 miles away in Lexington, MA. They had recently lost their beloved dog and knew their next pet would be a rescue.

Bentley felt like the perfect fit. They made the drive to meet him, and even better, they brought him home! What Hema didn’t expect was just how many people already loved their new dog. Volunteers, former caregivers, and people who had followed Bentley on social media began reaching out for updates.

“I told my husband, ‘He’s really popular!’” Hema said. “He just didn’t have a home, but it was clear he was really loved.” So loved, in fact, that Hema had to create an Instagram account (@bentley.woofs) so Bentley’s many friends could continue following his adventures.

Today, Bentley finally has the one thing his village couldn’t give him — a home of his own.
