A Childhood Promise Became a Lifelong Passion
Robin’s love for animals began as a child in Brooklyn, when a long-awaited promise from her mother led to her first pet. She was told that her request for a dog would be granted if they ever moved from their apartment into a house, and thanks to a twist of fate, when Robin was 11 years old, her wish came true. Their new home included a new family member — a beagle named Flippy. “That’s where it began,” she recalled. “Flippy’s care was all on me — and I learned beagles sure love to run! But I also learned responsibility.”
Years later, Robin would discover the benefit of having low maintenance pets, and she and her husband adored the Siamese cats who lived with them for nearly two decades. Today, as she enjoys the freedom of retirement and travel, having a pet is less suited to her lifestyle. Still, her love of animals remains unwavering.

“Now my husband and I are in a position to donate to organizations we want to support, and we wanted to choose an animal welfare organization,” she explained. They turned to North Shore Animal League America because they appreciated its combination of local and national efforts, and the personal touch they received in response to their gift. “Knowing my support is truly valued makes it even more meaningful,” Robin added.
A particular highlight for Robin was visiting Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center: “I was blown away by the cat spaces — to see how calm they are in the cage-free environment. You can tell the animals feel at home.” Robin is also a strong advocate for North Shore Animal League America’s programs, from TNR efforts that manage community cat populations to the Mutt-i-grees® Curriculum that teaches empathy through shelter pets in schools.
For Robin, giving is about more than just making a donation — it’s about making a difference. She is proud to support an organization that shares her lifelong passion for animals, and we are deeply grateful for compassionate donors like her, whose generosity helps save and improve lives every day.
