One of the most destructive storms in Florida’s history, Hurricane Ian has left residents struggling in its wake. As always in times of crisis, North Shore Animal League America mobilized quickly to help, bringing people together and forging new bonds in the process.

Hurricane Ian Relief

Our shelter partners along Florida’s southwest coast are facing the aftermath and clean-up of damage caused by Hurricane Ian and the subsequent storm surge. North Shore Animal League America’s Emergency Rescue Team is collecting relief supplies to be distributed to affected animal shelters in in the wake of this catastrophic storm. Supplies will be hard to come by in areas hit hardest by the hurricane. That's why we are reaching out to animal lovers in the Long Island and tristate region for help.

Rescue Partnership Celebrates a Milestone

As our mobile rescue unit rolled onto our Port Washington, NY campus on Wednesday, August 10, with our dedicated staff standing by to receive the weary four-legged travelers, it seemed like just another day at North Shore Animal League America. But this was not just another day, nor was it just another rescue. This day marked the 50th rescue with our shelter partner, Paws4Life, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Our Tireless Rescue Efforts Save More Puppy Mill Dogs

The lifesaving work of North Shore Animal League America does not rest. Just weeks from rescuing 40 dogs from commercial breeders in the Midwest, our Rescue Team made another trip westward and returned with more than 50 dogs and puppies from Kansas-area breeding facilities.

Mildred Endured Neglect and Is Ready for Love

To meet Mildred, you must be ready to receive her hugs and kisses. Despite her difficult start to life — struggling with hypothyroidism which was left untreated — this six-year-old pug is incredibly affectionate and welcomes everyone enthusiastically.

Cross-Country Rescue Mission Saves Puppy Mill Dogs

Forty resilient dogs and puppies — representing a wide array of small breeds — arrived to North Shore Animal League America ready for a fresh start. Rescued in collaboration with long-time partner, National Mill Dog Rescue, these endearing animals came from commercial breeding facilities throughout the Colorado area, where their lives were at risk.

Bound and Determined to Protect Her Pups

Not even a coyote trap was going to stop Dolly — only a year old herself — from taking care of her babies. When North Carolina Animal Control discovered Dolly in the woods, she had the jaws of a trap clamped painfully onto her front paw, and her two precious puppies right by her side.

Love, Loss, and New Life

Freya arrived at our Pet Health Centers enormously pregnant, and just in time. Transported to us with the help of our Tennessee-based animal rescue partner Rescue Dog and End of Life Sanctuary, this two-year-old Cattle Dog was about to face a fight for survival.
